Civil Gamers Military RP - Getting Started

This is a short guide on the basics of MRP, this will teach you how best to not get abused by a General for not breathing in the correct direction. Before joining the server it is a good idea to read the MRP Rules and join the Teamspeak and MRP Discord. During your time on the server, if you need help, call a member of staff using @ before you message.

Part 1: Joining the Server

To make the server load in time as quickly as possible and to reduce the chance of any errors, it's probably a good idea to subscribe to the content pack found here. Once that is done the easiest way to connect to the server is to either find it in the "Military RP" section in the server listing or type "connect cg.civilservers.net:27022" in your console without quotation marks. From your first connection, the server will remain in your history so it is easier to connect.

Part 2: Setting up a character

Once you have loaded into the server you will be greeted with a screen where you are able to read the server Lore and create a character from the menu on the left-hand side. You can expand the Lore category and read the server's backstory to get a deeper RP understanding.

From here, you can expand the "New Character" option and view the options for each team, you have a choice of 3 teams. Each team has its own specialized regiments and jobs which allow you to fully experience this unique version of MRP:
  • - NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization)
  • - USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics)
  • - Civilians
20210103191416_1.jpg
For the purposes of this tutorial, I will be making a USSR character. Even if you decide to choose NATO, the setup will be the same. Once you have chosen the side you would like to join, you will be greeted with a screen showing all the available regiments and jobs, the USSR Ranks, the USSR Regiments, and the USSR Ground and Air Vehicles. Each side has 6 regiments that you can join once you are in the server that is separated from the basic infantry private you will start as, but we'll get to that later.

From here you should press "Join USSR/NATO/Civilians" and you will be met with a character creation screen. Here you should choose your name and Bio of your character. Bear in mind your need needs to be within the rules and should not contain racism and similar banned words. Be careful what you choose here because you will require an admin to change it again. The Bio must also be longer than 20 characters.

After you have completed this step, your new character will be available to select on the left-hand side, similar to the image above, you can now select this character and it will provide all the information about it. It will show your rank, regiment, licenses you have, and your cooking and scavenging level. You are now ready to enter into Military RP and begin your training.

Part 3: Getting Trained
Once you have pressed the "Play" button you will find yourself in a room with walls covered in information boards and graphics. This is the Recruit Training room, you will find the chat is now active with messages and you will be equipped with several different items, be aware the Trainee AKM does 1 damage per shot and the Training room is a safe zone so no one can RDM. At this point, you should find the training request button on the wall and press it to request a trainer as well as posting "/comms I need Training" in the chat. The Trainer Request button should look something like the image below. After this point, you should wait patiently for a trainer to arrive. If no trainer shows up after 5 minutes you should now post a message to the admins using "@ I need Training" and fill in the required sit information. A member of the staff team will then take your sit and arrange a trainer to train you. At this point, if you aren't already in it, join the Discord Server linked at the top of this guide.

When a trainer arrives, you will then be taken around the room either individually or with other recruits and taught information needed to play on the server including:
- Chat Commands
- Phrases
- Conflict Status
- Territories & Maps
- Rules of Engagement
- Ranks
- Faces
- Formations
Once your trainer has decided you are good enough to be trusted with a functioning AKM that does damage, you will be promoted to PVT and able to switch to USSR/NATO Infantry. It is advised that at this point if you haven't already, you should definitely read the rules.

Part 4: Being a Private
Once you have been promoted to Private and switched to NATO or USSR Infantry (depending on which team you are on) you will find yourself equipped with a number of new weapons and inside the Infantry Bunks. From here there are 3 options depending on the war state.

- Peacetime: If you are lucky enough to finish your training in peacetime with a good amount of time left there is normally a wide range of tryouts on offer, the best option is to go and try out for whichever regiment you want to join.

- Pre-war: If you finish your training during pre-war you are most likely going to have to attend the war briefing that normally happens at the change between peacetime and pre-war, if not ask in /comms for your orders as infantry.

- War: If you finish your training during war, you have the opportunity to get straight into action on the battlefield. Either look on the interactive map or on your hud for your orders and get started. During war, you will also receive orders over Voice Amplifier or through Comms from your Generals.

Depending on the war state depends on what you will be able to do. Around the base, you will see signs with rank/regimental restrictions for entry.

Part 5: Joining a Regiment

Regiments
On the USSR and NATO side, there is a choice of 5 main regiments and a High Command branch to join (although you will have to apply and will most likely have to be a Second Lieutenant and above) These 5 regiments work together to ensure a smooth-running war, each having their own specialty. Each side has a Special Forces Regiment, Infantry Regiment, Armoured Regiment, Air Force and Military Police Force. They vary in names and weapons depending on the side. You can only have one character on each team at this time so make sure you enjoy the regiment you join.

NATO
  • Special Air Service (SAS)
    • Special Forces of NATO, tasked with hostage rescue, advanced recon and assassinations
  • Military Police (MP)
    • Military Police of NATO, tasked with keeping law and order and respect among soldiers
  • Joint Air Force (JAF)
    • Air Arm of tasked with gaining air superiority and air-to-ground combat
  • 17th Armoured Regiment (17thAR)
    • Armoured branch tasked with destroying enemy armour and maintaining ground dominance
  • International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
    • Main infantry fighting force, large numbers of soldiers equipped with a wide variety of weaponry

USSR
  • Spetsnaz Alfa Group (AG)
    • Special Forces of the USSR, tasked with hostage rescue, advanced recon and assassinations
  • Committee for State Security (KGB)
    • Military Police of the USSR, tasked with keeping law and order and respect among soldiers, they can also carry out executions
  • Airborne Troops (ABT)
    • Air Arm tasked with gaining air superiority and air-to-ground combat
  • 10th Steel Division (10thSD)
    • Armoured branch tasked with destroying enemy armour and maintaining ground dominance
  • Shock Army (SHA)
    • Main infantry fighting force, large numbers of soldiers equipped with a wide variety of weaponry

Tryouts
Once you have either just finished training or braved your first war as a private it's now time to get serious and join a regiment to rise through the ranks and have some fun. To join a regiment, a Senior NCO and above must be holding a tryout that is broadcast in Comms. It will normally look something along the lines of:

[Comms] KGB Captain Example: KGB Tryouts | KGB Bunks | 2 Strikes | Join the Police of the USSR | Closes in 2 minutes

If this is the regiment you want to join, ask for the location of the KGB bunks and make your way to take part. Whoever is leading the tryout will most likely make PTS active throughout the tryout and the number of strikes you can accumulate from failing parts of the tryout will vary depending on the regiment. If you pass the tryout, you will most likely have to join the discord to receive your rank and join the TeamSpeak to get your channel permissions. Some regiments will not let you join or be promoted without this.

When you have joined the regiment and received the rank on the discord, you need to familiarise yourself with the relevant announcement and barracks channels. Trainings and important information will be posted here so make sure you are regularly checking. Once you have been in the regiment for at least a day and played a part in some wars you will most likely receive your first promotion. Some regiments have further requirements for each rank but this will vary.

You will also be able to obtain licenses to carry out your duties depending on which regiment you are in, there are six licenses available but some may only be held when in a certain regiment.

  • Tazer License - Private (MP or KGB)
  • Pilots License - Private Second Class (JAF, ABT or SAS/AG Colonel)
  • Heavy Weapons License - Corporal
  • Sniper License - Corporal
  • Driving License - Corporal (PFC for 17thAR or 10thSD)
  • Armoured Vehicle License - Corporal (17thAR or 10thSD)

Part 6: Getting Settled

You are now settled in a regiment, you've joined the Discord and you're communicating with your team on Teamspeak, what now? From now on you can continue to fight in wars and be promoted up the ranks to gain more roles and responsibilities within your regiment and your respective side overall. As well as this there are a few extras that haven't been mentioned

Cooking & Scavenging
There is a cooking addon on the server with the ability to work out hundreds of recipes to make anything from dough to cyanide pills, you can find recipes around the map to use with scavenged goods from crates and boxes in the kitchen to make whatever you want.

Attachments & Arms Dealer
In both bases and at the Civilian spawn there is a weapons dealer offering a wide variety of weapons for low prices or a permanent "always available" option that can be donated for using /doante. Along with this, there is also an attachment dealer who can assist with modifying your weapon and adding a player made skin.

Vehicle Deployments
Depending on which regiment you are in, and the licenses you have, you will most likely be able to request vehicles from the Vehicle Deployment NPC within the base. However, this will need to be approved by the highest-ranking active member of your side and will go all the way down the Senior / Second Lieutenant.

Briefs & Debriefs
There will usually be a briefing held before each war to tell all the units their orders and where they are stationed throughout the next conflict. There is also a debrief held afterwards in which the High Command will evaluate the performance of their side and see what went wrong.

Part 7: Freedom

After this point, there is not much more I can explain other than telling you to go and explore.

This is a work in progress.
